The discontinuation of the channel is set to leave over 100 people without a job, including employees and freelancers as reported by Barcelona-based radio station RAC1.
According to RAC1, Barcelona will not extend their deal with Telefonica, a Spanish telecommunications company, to outsource Barca TV in a move that could save the club €13m a season.
Last year, Barca TV was considered by the club as a possible viable product, but they were not able to make it work. In January 2013, Barca TV workers held several strikes demanding better conditions at work, which they ended the next month after reaching an agreement with the company.
This is the latest decision the club has had to make to alleviate the financial issues that have hampered the club in recent years.
