Atalanta may have insisted Ademola Lookman is not officially for sale, but developments behind the scenes suggest a potential move that could spark a high-profile Nigerian rivalry in Turkey.
With interest growing from Istanbul, the Serie A side appear open to talks, but will only do so at the right price.
Atalanta set €40m condition for Lookman exit
According to Calciomercato.com, Atalanta are not planning to sell Lookman during the winter transfer window but would be willing to discuss his departure if an offer of at least €40 million arrives.
The Bergamo-based club want to retain the 28-year-old until the end of the season and have no intention of forcing him out despite recent squad changes.
Lookman, who has scored three goals in 16 appearances this season, is set to return from Nigeria international duty and will link up with a new attacking partner in Giacomo Raspadori, who has joined Atalanta permanently from Atletico Madrid.
Raspadori’s arrival, however, does not signal the end of Lookman’s importance at the club, with Atalanta viewing him as a key part of their plans unless a major bid changes the equation.
Club sources insist La Dea will only listen to “high offers” and are relaxed about keeping the Nigerian forward through the campaign if their valuation is not met.
Fenerbahce move could ignite Turkish showdown
Interest from Turkey has added a fresh twist. SportMediaset transfer expert Orazio Accomando reports that Fenerbahce are prepared to offer €5 million for a loan deal until the end of the season, including an obligation to buy worth €37 million. The proposal would effectively meet Atalanta’s asking price structure.
Fenerbahce are also said to be ready to tempt Lookman with a lucrative contract exceeding €9 million per season, including bonuses.
Such a move would not only elevate Lookman’s profile in Turkey but could also set up a mouth-watering rivalry involving another Nigerian superstar already shining in the league, Galatasaray hitman Victor Osimhen.
While Atalanta hold the cards for now, the combination of a strong financial offer and sporting potential suggests the door is no longer firmly shut, and a new chapter for Lookman may yet unfold on Turkish soil.
