2026 FIFA World Cup: 3 countries that have qualified and what Super Eagles need to join them

Three countries are already guaranteed of participation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be the first 48-team tournament.

Canada will play in the men's World Cup for the third time, securing their place as one of the host nations. This will also be their second consecutive appearance after competing in Qatar 2022.

Mexico will host the World Cup for the third time, having previously staged memorable tournaments in 1970 and 1986.

It will mark their 18th appearance in 2026.

Like Canada and Mexico, the U.S. qualified automatically as co-hosts. The 2026 edition will mark their 12th World Cup appearance.

Nigeria’s path to the 2026 FIFA World Cup is tough, but qualification is still possible.

The Super Eagles are currently fifth in Group C with three points after four matches (three draws, one loss). However, they are only four points behind Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin Republic, who occupy the top three spots. With six matches left, there is still time to turn things around.

To qualify, Nigeria must finish first in their group for an automatic spot or be among the four best second-placed teams to enter the playoffs.

New coach Eric Chelle will begin his tenure with crucial games against Rwanda and Zimbabwe. To stay in contention, the Super Eagles must secure six points from these matches—anything less will make qualification much harder.
