The first sprint race of the 2023 season has seen Red Bull's Sergio Perez victorious at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix.

Red Bull have picked up yet another win in the 2023 Formula 1 season as Sergio Perez claimed the win in the first sprint race of the season at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix ahead of Sunday's main showdown.

The race which followed a new qualifying format saw Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc take pole position on Friday.

However, Leclerc would end up finishing in after Perez used DRS to overtake him on lap eight of 17 as the Mexican driver pulled clear to take victory in Baku.

 Defending world champion and Red Bull driver Max Verstappen finished third on Saturday after fending off serious competition for Mercedes driver George Russell.

Verstappen overtook Russell after a safety-car interruption.

Russell ended up finishing in fourth, ahead of Aston Martin driver Fernando Alonso and his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton.

When is the Azerbaijan GP? 

The main race starts at 1pm WAT on Sunday 30 April to catch the start of the grand prix.

Where is the Azerbaijan GP taking place? 

The Azerbaijan GP is being held in Baku on a street circuit that winds its way through the city before blasting down a main road in what is one of the longest stretches spent at full throttle all season. 

A total of six grands prix have been held in Baku since the first in 2016.
