You can NEVER be Ronaldo - 'Angry' Spanish journalists blast Kylian Mbappe after Real Madrid UCL stinker against Arsenal

Spanish journalists have dished out a brutal assessment of Mbappé at Real Madrid, suggesting it is pointless to mention his name is the same breathe as Cristiano Ronaldo.

Spanish journalists have singled out Kylian Mbappé’s after Real Madrid’s horror show against Arsenal in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Madrid’s £200M man has come under blistering fire following a dismal two-legged performance against the Premier League giants, where Los Blancos crashed out 5-1 on aggregate.

Mbappé failed to score in either fixture, and now critics in Spain are questioning if he’s even cut out for the Santiago Bernabéu spotlight.

“Forget about Cristiano – It’s foolish”

Cadena SER’s El Larguero saw top Spanish journalists rip into the French superstar’s lacklustre display, with Tomás Roncero delivering the harshest blow of all.

“We thought Mbappé was coming to establish what he already was in Paris, the player who won a World Cup and almost another with France, and boy, apart from the day at City when he scored a hat-trick… It’s not that he doesn’t try, it’s that I don’t see him as decisive,” said Roncero as per Goal.

“People have wanted to see in Mbappé a new Cristiano [Ronaldo] and he is light years ahead. Cristiano is one of a kind. Whoever thought that Mbappé is the new Cristiano should forget it.”

The criticism didn’t end with comparisons to Ronaldo.

Antonio Romero highlighted the Bernabéu’s cold response when Mbappé limped off injured in the second half.

“When Mbappé was substituted, I said on Carrusel that the Bernabéu sounded a bit strange,” Romero noted.

“But for me the worst thing is that when Brahim came on they applauded him more than when Mbappé left. It was like saying that they should have brought him on earlier.”

Julio Pulido went one step further, backing the whistles aimed at Mbappé and declaring he’ll never be a leader like CR7. “These whistles are on Kylian Mbappé’s payroll,” Pulido said.

“Mbappe is never going to be Cristiano Ronaldo. He does not have, and will not have, the leadership or the character of Cristiano.”

Romero also pointed out that Mbappé hasn’t even stepped up to fill Vinicius Jr’s shoes this season.

“The comparison between Mbappé is not with Cristiano. The comparison… is with Vinicius and Madrid has lost out.”

Now, with a twisted ankle and his Copa del Rey final status in doubt, Mbappé’s Spanish dream is already looking more like a nightmare despite his impressive goal record in his debut season in Spain.

The 26-year-old Frenchman has scored 33 goals in all competitions for the Los Blancos so far this campaign.
