It is hard to imagine Lamine Yamal was once Sergio Ramos' mascot at the El Clasico in 2016 as the teenage sensation ran rings around the Real Madrid legend, forcing him into scoring a calamitous own goal during Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Sevilla on Friday night.
In 2016, a then eight-year-old Lamine Yamal was clearly starstruck as legendary Spanish defender Sergio Ramos held his hand in the tunnel ahead of Real Madrid’s El Classico match against Barcelona.
As both teams were preparing to walk out of the tunnel, Yamal was smiling from ear to ear as he gazed up in awe at Ramos, who himself was gazing straight forward as if he was looking forward to battle.
Little did he know that eight years later, the La Masia academy graduate who is making quick waves to become the next Lionel Messi would be playing a key part in piling misery on Ramos’ new side Sevilla.
To be fair, Ramos probably didn't envisage himself being back playing at Sevilla and Friday's match-deciding own goal at the Nou Camp might have had him wishing he wasn't.
