Florian Wirtz has shared his profound happiness and pride at completing his transfer to Liverpool.
The Germany international has signed a long-term contract with the club, following a £100 million (€117.5 million) agreement (with £16 million (€18.8 million) in bonuses) with Bayer Leverkusen for his transfer.
Wirtz believes it is the right moment in his career for a significant step, and he sought a club among the global elite.
Wirtz reflects on Leverkusen loss to Liverpool
Wirtz believes he will significantly improve his personal and physical game at Liverpool, recognising the renowned strength and physicality of the club's players.
He views this as a vital opportunity for growth, vividly recalling the challenging experience of playing against Arne Slot's team last November, a match Bayer Leverkusen lost 4-0.
Despite the disappointment, the quality and intensity of the Reds team left a lasting impression, making him yearn to be part of such a side.
“It was really tough to play here,” said Wirtz. “I was still thinking about the game when I spoke to the coach or the other guys.
“It was an example [of] how it can be here. As I said, it was really hard, we lost 4-0 and we had to run so much and lost almost every duel. I just wanted to be part of this team.”
