South Africa and Nigeria will go head-to-head in the AFCON 2023 after victory against Cape Verde.

South Africa has set up an exciting ‘amapiano derby’ against Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023, after grinding past Cape Verde in the quarterfinal.

Pulse Sports Nigeria reports that the Bafana Bafana became the last team to book a place in the semifinal after a 2-1 win against the Blues Sharks in a penalty shootout.

South Africa to face Nigeria

Willams Ronwen was the hero of the day after keeping his fourth consecutive clean sheet before stealing the show in the shoot-out.

South Africa and neighbours Cape Verde were inseparable after regular time and extra time as the match remained goalless at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in Yamoussoukro.

The Mamelodi Sundowns shut-stopper stopped four penalties to send South Africa’s Bafana Bafana through to the last four.

The tense clash lacked clear chances but Cape Verde almost snatched it late on when Vozinha rattled the South Africa post.

After that impressive show from goalkeeper Williams, Bafana Bafana secured their place in the semi-finals for the first time since 2000.

The South Africans now face a mouthwatering clash with rivals Nigeria for a spot in the semifinals.

As an extra spice to what is already an enticing AFCON 2023 encounter between these two nations is the amapiano music style popular in both countries.
