UEFA choose majestic Spanish stadium to host 2027 Champions League final
UEFA have confirmed that the 2027 Champions League final will return to Spain, with Madrid’s Metropolitano chosen as the host venue.
The decision marks the first time in eight years that Spain will stage Europe’s biggest club fixture.
Metropolitano beats rivals to land the final
After months of speculation, UEFA’s Executive Committee made it official: the Metropolitano has been awarded the honour of staging the 2027 showpiece, edging out the Olympic Stadium in Baku.
The iconic San Siro in Milan, home of Inter and AC Milan, which was initially considered, was ruled out earlier in the process.
This will be its second Champions League final played Atlético Madrid’s stadium,, the first coming in 2019 when Liverpool defeated Tottenham Hotspur.
It also adds to Madrid’s rich history of hosting the competition, with the Santiago Bernabéu having staged the event on four occasions, 1957, 1969, 1980 and 2010.
The 2027 women’s final will be held in Warsaw, Poland, while this season’s men’s final is set for the Puskás Arena in Budapest, Hungary.
Spain’s stadiums gearing up for 2030 World Cup
The Metropolitano’s selection is a reflection of Spain’s wider push to modernise its football infrastructure ahead of co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The Santiago Bernabéu is undergoing a multi-billion euro facelift, while Barcelona’s Camp Nou, Real Betis’ Benito VillamarÃn, Zaragoza’s La Romareda and Celta Vigo’s BalaÃdos are also being redeveloped.
This modernisation drive has ensured Spain and its stadiums remain a central figure in UEFA’s event planning.
With the 2027 Champions League final heading to Madrid, fans will once again experience a European showpiece in one of football’s most atmospheric cities, reaffirming Spain’s status as a hub for elite football.
