Victor Osimhen could be in line for a return to action in the UEFA Champions League against AC Milan

Serie A club Napoli have received a significant boost as Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen resumes training ahead of their UEFA Champions League quarterfinal first-leg clash with AC Milan.

Osimhen steps up recovery in time for Milan

Osimhen has been out of contention for two weeks after an adductor muscle injury sustained while on international duty with Nigeria but could be set for a return when Napoli play Milan in the UCL on Wednesday.

The forward was pictured in individual training ahead of the crucial all-Italian quarterfinal and also posted a picture back out on the field on his Instagram stories.

With the rest of the Napoli squad getting a day off after exertions against Lecce, Osimhen took the opportunity to get back on the grass with a view to being fit enough to play in the UCL fixture against Milan.

The Nigerian striker’s return is a welcome development for Napoli after they struggled without him during his most recent absence.

Napoli hoping Osimhen can lead them to UCL glory

His first match out injured saw Napoli embarrassed 4-0 by Milan in Serie A, while they barely escaped with all three points against lowly Lecce, with an Antonino Gallo freak own goal the difference between the two sides.

I Partenopei have maintained their huge lead at the top of Serie A without Osimhen but will need him fit again now that the UCL is reaching its most difficult stages and the Nigerian is hitting his best form in the competition.

Osimhen was the chief protagonist in Napoli’s round of 16 victory over Frankfurt, scoring three goals over the two legs to help Napoli reach the first UCL quarterfinal in the club’s history.

He has now scored four goals in European competitions this season and will be hoping to get fit enough to improve that tally when Napoli play Milan on Wednesday.

In all competitions, Osimhen has been directly involved in 30 goals in 29 games, the most of his senior career in Europe and could help Napoli to an unprecedented season if his form lasts until the end of the campaign.

Interestingly, this will be the first time Osimhen is facing Milan this season after missing both fixtures in the league through injury.
