Trust in Pochettino — Ben Chilwell says Chelsea are inexperienced

Chelsea vice captain Ben Chilwell acknowledges that the squad is inexperienced, but pledges confidence in Pochettino.

Chelsea have carried over their struggles from last season despite a new manager at the helm and another summer of spending.

They have only managed four points in as many games this term, winning one, losing two, and drawing one.

The new Vice Captain of the club, Ben Chilwell, acknowledges the struggles but attributes them to the inexperience in the squad.

The Blues seem to have employed a new transfer policy with a heavy focus on young players. This has caused them to have one of the youngest squads in the league, with an average age of a reported 24.6.

What Chilwell said

Chilwell, who is currently on England national duty, told reporters he believes the young age of their squad is one of the reasons they have been struggling but trusts in the boss, Mauricio Pochettino, to steer the ship right.

"It is such a young and new squad. It’s inexperienced in a way,” Chilwell said, per Goal.

“There’s a new manager trying to impart his ideas, and it is down to me and Reece [James, captain] to take on responsibility, be leaders in the group, and guide the ship a little bit.

"Especially in the last few weeks, in what could be seen as a bit of a tough time, I kind of just try to guide the ship through that, stay confident, and know what talent we have in the squad. We are confident and also have a great manager. We are very aware [of what’s wrong] but confident we can turn it around very quickly."
