Premier League teams have broken the gross expenditure record for a single transfer window this summer.

A number of teams hurried to do their last-minute transactions, including several stunning big-money swoops before the market abruptly closed late last night.

Several big money moves were made this summer with the likes of Caicedo, Declan Rice, Dominik Szoboszlai, Gvardiol and many more making a move to top clubs.

The frenzy of last-minute transactions caused the top-overall spending to increase drastically, surpassing the previous record set.

Premier League Clubs beat spending record

According to reports from Daily Mail, on the final day of play, the £2.2bn gross increased to almost £2.3bn by 10.30 p.m.

The total amount revealed at the £2.4bn milestone was surpassed after the completion of all deals.

Just four teams, including newcomers Sheffield United and Luton, concluded the season with an outlay of less than £50 million, while half of the division spent £100 million or more in the window.

Chelsea led the way in summer expenditure after investing £428.8 million in their team with the likes of Moises Caicedo, Lavia and other players joining the Blues.

The Blues also let some key members leave with the likes of Kai Havertz, Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, Kalidou Koulibably and others leaving for reasonable figures

Unexpectedly, Tottenham came in second in terms of spending when Daniel Levy, who is known for being conservative, opened his chequebook to the tune of £213.4 million.

The other major arrivals included Guglielmo Vicario, James Maddison, Pedro Porro, Dejan Kulusevski, Micky van de Ven, and Brennan Johnson, who signed for £47.5 million.

Bayern Munich signed superstar Harry Kane for £100 million making their net expenditure increase to £103.4 million.

Manchester City made the third-highest summer spending total. Even though they weren't as active as Chelsea.

They brazenly strengthened the backbone of their team by bringing in Josko Gvardiol, Mateo Kovacic, Matheus Nunes, and Jeremy Doku in a £211 million expenditure.

Arsenal, meanwhile, spent £206.5 million and came in fourth. Despite Folarin Balogun and Granit Xhaka leaving the club.

Their high-profile pursuits of Declan Rice, who joined for £105 million, and Kai Havertz swung the scales in this situation.
