Bayer Leverkusen could lose another pivotal player as reports emerge of AC Milan’s interest in Bundesliga side’s star.
Bayer Leverkusen could lose another important player this summer after Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong.
While Frimpong has signed for Liverpool, the German attacking midfielder’s British transfer signing is imminent, thereby significantly lessening the quality of the 2024 Bundesliga champions.
However, fresh reports have emerged that another key player could leave this summer.
Milan interested in Bayer Leverkusen star
According to Fabrizio Romano, AC Milan are keen on signing former Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka this summer.
The Swiss midfielder swapped North London for North Rhine-Westphalia in 2023 after seven years in the Premier League, and was a key component of the Leverkusen side that claimed the Bundesliga title in 2023-24, going unbeaten in the top flight.
However, Romano reports that Xhaka, 32, is a Milan target this summer.
The Rossoneri are keen to improve their side after losing Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City, and have reportedly earmarked the experienced midfield man as a body in the middle of the park to upgrade their squad.
Xhaka’s durability for Leverkusen in the past two seasons have been underscored by the midfielder’s 66 Bundesliga appearances and 99 in all competitions across his debut 23-24 season and 2024-25.
What’s next for AC Milan?
Milan, who finished eighth in Serie A last term, return for pre-season next month.
The Rossoneri will play Premier League sides Arsenal and Liverpool in their tune-up games ahead of next season.
Milan begin their Serie A campaign against Cremonese on August 24.
