Kylian Mbappe: From teen star to superstar

The now-25-year-old was a quintessential teen star, possibly the best of recent generations. He made his senior debut at 16, secured a €180 million move to PSG at 18, and won the World Cup the following year, winning the Young Player of the Tournament.

The seeds for Mbappe's success had been sown since he was much younger by his football coach father, Wilfried Mbappe, and educator mother, Fayza Lamari, who combined to give and polish his talents as well as made all the retrospectively right decisions that ensured their son reached the pinnacle of sport.

Hence, Mbappe's story birthed a trend called “Project Mbappe,” a term employed by parents and aspiring parents to describe drilling kids from infancy to enable them to grow into superstars, like Mbappe did.

In an interview with Cliquetv, the France international was asked about his opinion on the phenomenon, and he advised parents not to ride their kids too hard, as his folks allowed him to develop naturally.

“Stop it! Cut everything... my parents let me have fun,” Mbappe said. “Just because you make him do 18 laps of the field at 8 years old doesn't mean it's going to change everything.”
