Sporting Lagos have slipped down the table after a day to forget at the office against Doma United in the NPFL.

Sporting Lagos have dropped down the table after a disappointing and lacklustre display against Doma United at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan, on Sunday.

The match, which had the fans on the edge of their seats, ultimately ended in a goalless draw, leaving the Noisy Lagosians with a share of the spoils against Doma.

Sporting Lagos fail at home

In a match that the home side was expected to win, the Noisy Lagosians as they have come to be known no thanks to their passionate fan base did not live up to the pre-game hype.

Sporting dominated the NPFL encounter against United, and created the most chances but were made to regret missing glittering chances due to their wastefulness and Doma’s brilliant defence led by their goalkeeper.

The Noisy Lagosians missed more than six big chances led by former NPFL top scorer Junior Lokosa, Rivio and Akpesiri.

On the other hand, the Scorpions of Gombe displayed great determination and resilience, making things difficult for Sporting and their fans.

Goalkeeper, Kingdom Osayi, was the obvious man of the match following a brilliant display in between the sticks which proved a bulwark for Sporting Lagos.

In summary, the match saw missed opportunities, near goals, injuries and a sense of frustration among the home supporters.

Despite their relentless chants and noise with the vuvuzelas, Sporting Lagos failed to secure the needed victory they had hoped for, with the result seeing them drop from second to sixth on the table.

The draw with Doma served as a reminder that in football, surprises are always around the corner. The Noisy Lagosians will be eager to regroup and bounce back while the Scorpions can celebrate a hard-earned point and take pride in their tenacity at the Onikan.
