Newcastle manager Eddie Howe speaks on the links to Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar.

Newcastle have been linked with the signings of Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar; however, manager Eddie Howe has shut down the speculation, suggesting that both superstars are not the right profile and could unsettle the current structure.

The Magpies are set for a Champions League presence next season and are expected to improve their squad, with a number of big names linked to them.

However, the club will not be going in the direction of superstar signings at the moment, according to Howe.

What Howe said

Despite being majorly owned by PIF, the former Bournemouth matter explains that they are unable to make a splash at their current level, saying it was impossible for them to make such acquisitions.

Other than that, the 45-year-old believes that they are not the right profile to be introduced to the group, suggesting that such big personalities could disrupt their current process.

“It is best to discover players before they explode onto the world scene,” Howe said, per the Daily Mail.

“We could not be able to come close to affording those players [Neymar and Ronaldo] as they are the best players in the world.

“That kind of speculation has been there from day one since the takeover, really. Naturally, everyone has then assumed the biggest names in world football will be going to Newcastle.

“We've not recruited that way. Financially, we can't recruit that way at the moment. But also, we have to bring the right people and the right players into the group.

“The transfer market is such a complex decision, you can't just pick a name and bring them in. There's got to be a lot of thought going into what we're doing, both financially and looking at the players.

“I know what direction I want to take the team in, and what we can and can’t do in the transfer market.”

Newcastle United were reported to have set their sights on Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar as they look to strengthen their team in preparation for an increasingly likely Champions League involvement next season
