Rigobert Song has bid farewell as Cameroon coach thanking all and expressing hope for the team's future after his recent sacking.

Rigobert Song has issued a heartfelt statement in the wake of his departure from his role as the head coach of Cameroon national team.

This development comes after Samuel Eto'o, president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECOFOOT), confirmed Song's sacking on Wednesday.

The move followed Cameroon's exit from the Africa Cup of Nations in January at the hands of Nigeria, who finished as runners-up.

Reflecting on his tenure, Song expressed his pride in having led the Indomitable Lions for two years.

"I was very honored for two years to be the head coach of our national football team: the Indomitable Lions," he stated.

Song highlighted his dedication to the team and the nation, emphasizing his commitment to achieving the objectives set before him, including qualification for the World Cup in Qatar 2022 and the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

Despite these efforts, Song acknowledged that the team's performances did not meet the expectations tied to Cameroonian football's prestigious reputation.

"Sport being what it is, our performances during these competitions were not commensurate with the notoriety and prestige of Cameroonian football," he expressed, accepting his share of responsibility while also cherishing the positive moments and experiences gained.

In his statement, Song extended his gratitude to various stakeholders, including the Head of State, the Government, the players, the staff, and the Executive Committee of the Cameroon Football Federation for their trust and support.

He also made a special mention of the fans, thanking them for their unwavering support and acknowledging their legitimate aspirations for the team's success on the continental stage.

"The Indomitable Lions is my story, it’s my Life. I remain a fan who knows that new and beautiful pages in the history of Cameroonian football will be written," Song stated, expressing hope for the future and the positive impact of the team's ongoing reconstruction.

Song, a former teammate of Samuel Eto'o and celebrated international player, was appointed as the head coach of Cameroon in February 2022.

He led the team to a memorable play-off victory over Algeria, securing their spot in the Qatar World Cup.

However, despite a historic win against Brazil in the group stage, the five-time African champions were unable to progress further in the tournament.

Throughout his time in charge, Song faced challenges, securing only six victories in 23 matches.
