Despite Michael Olunga scoring, Al Duhail suffered a huge loss to Al Gharafa in the Qatar Stars League with Yacine Brahimi's hat-trick dominating the match.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga was on target as Al Duhail fell to a 4-1 defeat against Al Gharafa in a Qatar Stars League match on Friday, March 1, 2024.

Olunga was playing his second match since returning from injury, having made it back to the lineup last Sunday, where his side played to a two-all draw against Al Arabi.

The match at Abdullahi bin Khalifa Stadium saw Yacine Brahimi opening the scoreline for Al Gharafa through a penalty at the 14th minute.

However, Al Duhail quickly responded with Olunga finding the back of the net in the 19th minute.

The joy for Al Duhail was short-lived as Brahimi doubled his score, putting Al Gharafa ahead in the 55th minute.

The match intensity heightened when Ferjani Sassi, the former Zamalek striker, extended Al Gharafa's lead in the 64th minute.

Brahimi sealed the victory for Al Gharafa by completing his hat-trick in the 82nd minute, overshadowing Olunga's efforts to salvage the game for Al Duhail.

Olunga has been in exceptional form for the reigning champions of the Qatari Stars League, netting 12 goals in 14 appearances this season.

Olunga made a comeback to the squad earlier this month after a two-month hiatus due to a leg injury he sustained during an Asian Champions League encounter with Persepolis in December.

The absence of Olunga had a significant impact on his team's performance, as they failed to secure a victory since the match on December 5, recording seven losses and one draw across all competitions.

Looking forward, Al Duhail is gearing up for their next fixture against Al-Makhiya, scheduled for Tuesday.
