Williot Swedberg scored a brace on opposite sides of two Real Madrid red cards, with both Los Blancos left sided defenders Fran Garcia and Alvaro Carreras getting sent off.

Real Madrid drew three straight matches before ending the run of bad results with the romping of Athletic Club. That result has now been proven to be a false dawn with the defeat to Celta.

Key match details

Celta broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute when Swedberg connected with a perfect pass from Bryan Zaragoza, slotting the ball low past the goalkeeper to make it 1–0.

Real tried to respond but were dealt a double blow mid-second half. First, defender Fran García saw a second yellow and was sent off around the 64th minute for a needless foul, leaving Madrid down to ten men. Minutes later, another dismissal saw Álvaro Carreras join him, reducing the hosts to nine and throwing the fixture beyond reach.

With space opening up, Celta seized their chance. Deep into stoppage time, Swedberg completed his brace, collecting the ball, rounding Thibault Courtois and escorting the ball home to seal a 2–0 victory in front of a stunned home crowd.
