David de Gea, who recently departed from Manchester United, emerges as a prime target for Real Madrid.

Real Madrid's star goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois has suffered a devastating setback as he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during a training session.

The 31-year-old Belgium international's injury has sent shockwaves through the footballing world, as he is now set to miss a significant portion of the upcoming season.

Courtois, known for his exceptional goalkeeping prowess, will undergo surgery in the coming days, leaving a void that the Spanish giants are scrambling to fill.

The goalkeeper left the training pitch in tears after sustaining the injury, further underlining the gravity of the situation.

Courtois, a constant presence in Real Madrid's starting lineup since his arrival in 2018, has been instrumental in the club's successes both domestically and in European competitions.

According to Sky Sports, the club has already initiated contact with representatives of former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea.

De Gea, who left Manchester United on a free transfer earlier this summer, became available after negotiations with his former club broke down, prompting his departure after a long and successful stint in the English Premier League.

Real Madrid's interest in De Gea comes as no surprise, given the Spanish shot-stopper's proven track record and experience at the highest level of the game.

De Gea's agility, shot-stopping abilities, and composure under pressure have made him one of the most sought-after goalkeepers in world football.

If the deal comes to fruition, it could mark a significant new chapter in De Gea's career, as he would step into the shoes of Courtois and shoulder the immense responsibility of guarding Real Madrid's goal.

Courtois, who was named the best goalkeeper in the world at last year's Ballon d'Or awards, has undeniably been a driving force behind Real Madrid's achievements.

His contributions were pivotal in the club's recent LALIGA victories and their triumphant 2022 Champions League campaign, where he delivered a standout performance in the final against Liverpool.

Before his tenure at Real Madrid, he clinched the Premier League title twice with Chelsea and secured the LALIGA title during his time with Atletico Madrid in 2014.
