Osimhen vs Haaland: Super Eagles star picks toughest striker to face

Fulham defender Calvin Bassey recently addressed comparisons between Victor Osimhen and Erling Haaland, explaining that both players are a handful to deal with.  

Osimhen’s incredible form this season, scoring six Champions League goals and a hat-trick against the Benin Republic to ensure the Super Eagles qualified for the World Cup, has triggered recent comparisons with some of the best players in his position, specifically Haaland. 

During a recent interview, the Fulham defender was asked about both strikers, specifically, who was tougher to defend against. Bassey thought the answer was tough, lauding the imposing nature of both players. However, he picked his countryman. 

“They’re both strikers, of course, they’re different. They’re both strong, very fast, and you always have to be on guard because at any time they can hurt you,” Bassey said. 

“You always have to be ready in the right position, know where they are, and they’re also one of those players that can physically take a lot out of you.

“I don’t think I can answer that because I’m about to play against one and I play with the other one, but maybe there’s bias, you could say Osimhen is harder to play against.

“Haaland isn’t easier either. Both of them are hard to play against. They’re both at the same level; I can’t choose.”

Meanwhile, Bassey also confirmed that Victor Osimhen wanted to join a club in the Premier League. However, he added that the Nigerian is content with his current employment situation.
