Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika showed once again why he must be a starter for Nigeria's Super Eagles
Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika was at the heart of Club Brugge's 4-1 win over Monaco in their first Champions League match of the season.
Onyedika managed to get on the scoresheet, with a well-taken goal in the first half to put Club Brugge 2-0 up as the Belgian side cruised to a comfortable opening day victory.
Club Brugge vs Monaco: How it happened
The Belgians started with intent, as Carlos Forbs’ driving run set up Christos Tzolis, who fired narrowly wide.
Moments later, Monaco were awarded a penalty when Mika Biereth was brought down by Simon Mignolet, but the veteran keeper redeemed himself with a fine save from Maghnes Akliouche.

Unfortunately for Brugge, Mignolet’s night ended early through injury, but the Belgian side reacted to losing him by seizing control of the game
Nicolò Tresoldi broke the deadlock on 32 minutes with a confident finish on his Champions League debut, before Raphael Onyedika doubled the lead just three minutes later from a corner.
Hans Vanaken then capped off a rampant first half with a superb volley, sending Brugge into the break three goals clear.
The hosts eased off after the restart but still dominated, with Aleksandar Stanković heading narrowly wide before Mamadou Diakhon added a fourth, finishing coolly after a slick move. Monaco mustered little in response, although Ansu Fati grabbed a late consolation.
With the win, Brugge stretched their unbeaten home run to seven matches, while Raphael Onyedika’s performance is certain to give Super Eagles manager Eric Chelle sleepless nights.
