Nigeria Women's Football League 3rd division gets kick off date

2 teams are expected to qualify from the NWFL Nationwide to the nation’s women’s second-tier league, the NWFL Championship.

The 2023 season of the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Nationwide will officially kick off on Wednesday, May 22nd, according to the NWFL Secretariat.

According to the NWFL secretariat on Thursday, 10 clubs registered to compete this season and are split into two groups of five each.

NWFL Nationwide split into two groups

NWFL Chief Operating Officer (COO), Modupe Shabi confirmed that the country’s women’s third-tier league this season will run from May 22 to 27 and will be staged in Benin City, Edo State.

The participating clubs are Castmog Ladies, Chosen Generation, First Mahi Babes, Fortress Ladies, Gallant Queens, Heroes Queens, Kaduna Queens, Papa Soccer Queens, Unification FCand Wazbak Int’l.

Following a draw, Group A comprises of Heroes Queens Academy, Papa Soccer Academy, Gallant Queens, First Mahi Babes and Wazbak Int’l, while Group B houses Chosen Generation, Unification, Fortress Int’l, Kaduna Queens and Castmog Ladies.

After the Nationwide campaign this season, two teams are expected to qualify for the nation’s women’s second-tier league, NWFL Championship next season.

First division's Super 6 to now hold

Meanwhile, the NWFL Super 6 playoff which had been postponed due to a clash of dates with the maiden edition of the WAFU B U-20 Women’s Cup, has now been rescheduled for June 9 to June 16.

Record Nigerian champions Rivers Angels, Confluence Queens, Edo Queens, FC Robo, Delta Queens, and the defending champions Bayelsa Queens are the six teams to participate in the series.
