New Celtic boss reveals when Iheanacho will return
Celtic interim boss Martin O’Neill said that Kelechi Iheanacho was still recovering from a hamstring injury and has yet to regain match fitness.
The 28-year-old Super Eagles striker hurt his hamstring in Celtic's 2-1 triumph over Sturm Graz in the Europa League. Since then, he has gone on to miss the defeat to Hearts, the victories against Falkirk and Rangers in the Old Firm derby, and the 3-1 thrashing from Midtjylland in Europe's second-tier competition.
What O’Neil said
Celtic have a striker problem, having lost two forwards this year. Hence, when their summer acquisition (Iheanacho) is unavailable, he is bound to be missed.
Hence, O’Neil was asked to provide a timeframe for Iheanacho's return, and he responded saying the Nigerian will be ruled out for more weeks.
“Yeah, he is going to be out for a few more weeks,” he said, per Celts are here. “I think that obviously after Sunday we've got this fortnight break, and we'll see how things go from there. But yeah, he certainly won't be available for Sunday anyway.”
Meanwhile, legendary Celtic midfielder Peter Grant believed his former club made a mistake signing Kelechi Iheanacho instead of young Scottish striker Kieron Bowie from Hibernian.
