Netherlands Football Federation are reportedly eyeing England's women's national team coach Sarina Wiegman to replace Ronald Koeman.

The Royal Dutch Football Association (KNVB) is reportedly considering Sarina Wiegman for the role of men's national team coach, with Ronald Koeman's return to the role going poorly.

Weigman is the current coach of the Three Lionesses, leading them to the Women's World Cup final, and has been previously employed by the KNVB as coach of the Dutch women's national team. A role in which she had many successes.

KNVB consider Sarina Wiegman

According to a report by the Daily Telegraph, the Dutch football association has, in private discussions, spoken about including the former defensive midfielder in a shortlist for the next coach of the Oranje.

Ronald Koeman is the current coach, returning for a second stint after Qatar 2022, but has suffered three defeats in the four games he has been in the dugout for.

He is currently under immense pressure and could be shown the door should results continue in their current trend.

Why everyone wants Weigman

Like the KNVB, the English Football Association, Weigman's current employees have suggested that she could be the next coach of the Three Lions when Gareth Southgate leaves.

The FA chief, Mark Bullingham, was quoted as saying that she could do anything she wanted in football and that he considers her an option for England's men's national team.

Sarina Weigman has enjoyed tremendous success across two top nations, reaching four major finals since 2017.

She led the Leeuwinnen to the women's European Championships in 2017 and to the final of the World Cup in 2019, losing to the USA.

She was hired to coach the England women's team in 2021 and achieved a similar feat, winning the Euros in 2022 and reaching the World Cup final in 2023, losing to Spain.

Can she be tempted to leave England women?

Although Wiegman has stated that she is currently happy in her current position and does not want to leave, it is important to note the pay disparity between being the coach of the England men's and women's national teams.

According to the Telegraph, Wiegman currently earns £400,000 annually, while the less successful Gareth Southgate earns a reported £6 million every year.

The economic might of the men's game still greatly outweighs the women's, and the financial rewards that would expectably follow could tempt Wiegman to leave her current role.
