World Cup-winning coach Lionel Scaloni and England Women's coach Sarina Wiegman have won the coach of the year awards

FIFA have recognised the best coaches in the world for 2022 at the FIFA The Best ceremony, naming Argentine coach Lionel Scaloni and Dutch coach of the England Women's national team Sarina Wiegman as the best Men's and Women's Coaches of the year respectively.

Lionel Scaloni beat Pep Guardiola and Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti to the FIFA The Best Men's Coach of the Year award thanks largely to his exploits with Argentina.

The 41-year-old manager became the first Argentine manager to lift the World Cup since 1986 after leading the team to victory in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. 

Scaloni took over an Argentine national team in shambles and was crucial in turning their fortunes around, winning the Copa America in 2021, which was the country's first title since 1993. 

He followed that up with a Finalissima trophy before crowning his reign with a sensational World Cup title, won in dramatic fashion. 

Sarina Wiegman named Women's coach of the year

England coach Sarina Weigmann clinched her third FIFA The Best Women's Coach of the Year award, beating Brazil women's team manager Pia Sundhage and Lyon manager Sonia Bompastor to the award.  after leading England women's team to the UEFA Women's European championship title

Wiegmann won her third FIFA The Best Coach of the Year award following wins in 2017 and 2020. She claimed the prize again after a stellar campaign with the England Women's National Team that saw them clinch their first-ever major honour with victory in the WEUROS. 

The WEUROS win was also Wiegman's second in a row after also leading her native Netherlands to the title in 2017.
