Napoli fans vote Osimhen ahead of Higuain and Cavani

Napoli fans voted for the best striker between Victor Osimhen, Edinson Cavani and Gonzalo Higuain.

Napoli fans were tasked with picking the best of the three strikers who have marked their recent history: Edinson Cavani, Gonzalo Higuain, and Victor Osimhen, and although the poll split opinions, the Nigerian came out on top. 

Ahead of the Champions League home clash against Barcelona at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, fans making their way to the ground were presented with the quiz. 

For the duration of the video, uploaded by @Ndernaples on X, the total number of votes was 38, and it was split as follows: Victor Osimhen (18), Edinson Cavani (14) and Gonzalo Higuain (6), with the Nigeria international being the clear winner.

Comparing Cavani, Higuain and Osimhen's careers at Napoli 

Edinson Cavani, who joined Napoli in 2010, initially on loan before a permanent transfer, quickly established himself as a dominant force in Serie A. 

During his tenure, Cavani helped Napoli clinch the Coppa Italia in 2012 and was the Serie A top scorer in the 2012-13 season with 29 league goals. 

Over his time at Napoli, he scored a remarkable 104 goals in 138 appearances, demonstrating his vital role in the team's success and earning him the nickname "El Matador" for his clinical finishing and composure in front of goal.

Gonzalo Higuaín's time at Napoli, from 2013 to 2016, was also notable. Higuaín broke records in the 2015-16 season by scoring 36 league goals, setting a new Serie A record for most goals in a season. 

This achievement underlined his importance to Napoli and solidified his status as one of the world's premier strikers during his stint with the club. Higuaín's tenure at Napoli was marked by prolific goal-scoring, though the team did not secure a Serie A title during his time.

Victor Osimhen, the latest of the trio to join Napoli, arrived in 2020 from Lille in a deal that was a record transfer for the club. Osimhen's tenure at Napoli has been characterised by his speed, work rate, and goal-scoring ability, offering the team a dynamic option in attack. 

While his time at Napoli has been shorter compared to Cavani and Higuaín, he has already secured a bigger legacy at the club, leading them to their first Serie A title in 33 years while winning the top scorer award with 26 goals, becoming the first African to achieve this feat. 

The athletic forward has also become the highest-scoring African player in Serie A, overtaking George Weah's record of 46 goals in the 2022-23 season.

Each of these strikers brought something unique to Napoli. Cavani's tenure was marked by his all-around attacking prowess and key contributions to the team's successes, including winning the Coppa Italia. 

Higuaín's record-breaking goal-scoring season remains a highlight of his career and a testament to his finishing ability. Meanwhile, Osimhen led the club to their first league title in over three decades.
