Olunga has finally responded to social media critics following his recent goalless performances for Harambee Stars ahead Harambee Stars’ clash with Gabon.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has finally responded to the online bashing he has been receiving from frustrated fans over the last couple of months after his profligate performances in a Harambee Stars shirt.

Over the last three games, Olunga had missed clear-cut opportunities, which got fans to vent their frustrations online, angry at the fact he has not been replicating his goalscoring form at club level for the national team in recent months.

Olunga last found the back of the net for Kenya against Iran during their 2-1 loss to the Asian nation back in March, and has not scored in any of the five games since.

He famously missed two sitters against Qatar, one against South Sudan and another glorious one against Russia in August.

Speaking to the media before the country jetted out to Gabon on Wednesday morning ahead of their match on Thursday night, Olunga insisted that the criticism does not bother him because he does not even bother checking social media as he is “not” on it.

“I am not on social media, so the one who handles the social media, maybe he is demoralised but not me,” Olunga said.

Quizzed about whether he had seen the criticism on his own pages, chose to play the cagey card: “Well, I have not seen anything.”

Olunga has the 2026 World Cup qualifiers to redeem himself when Kenya play Gabon on Thursday.

Firat is eager to have his top striker back in form and has previously expressed his commitment to standing by his captain.

The Turkish tactician values Olunga not just for his goal-scoring abilities but also for his leadership and mentorship within the team.

"Michael stands out as one of the finest players I have had the privilege of coaching, and I am genuinely thrilled to have him on our team. His role as a leader is crucial for us." Firat expressed satisfaction with Olunga's contributions to the team.
