United are eager to sign a long-term midfielder to fill the void when the Brazilian finally leaves.

Manchester United have reportedly identified Southampton’s Romeo Lavia as a long-term successor for Carlos Casemiro.

Lavia is available in the summer, and given that his talent has been visible, United are set to face a battle from a host of other clubs interested in the teenager.

Although they have not sealed a place in the Champions League, United are likely to participate in the competition, which means they need a bolstered squad for another busy schedule next season.

The Red Devils’ hierarchy is said to have already laid down their transfer plans, and Lavia has been repeatedly mentioned as a key target.

Erik ten Hag will be keen to strengthen all the departments of the team, especially the midfield and the attacking unit.

Casemiro, since his arrival from Real Madrid, has helped stabilize United’s midfield, but reinforcements are surely needed to make it more impervious. Given his rather advanced age, he is not seen as a long-term asset for the club, and this gives United room to start planning for life without him.

The Brazilian captain has also been linked with Bayern Munich, but such a move at this point looks impossible.

With relegation looking inevitable for Southampton, the Saints might want to cash in on Lavia, as he is in demand given his talent and market value.

Arsenal and Chelsea have also been linked with a move for the 19-year-old. However, the Gunners’ primary midfield target is understood to be Declan Rice of West Ham United, but Lavia is a fallback option if they fail to sign the Hammers’ captain.
