Manchester United takes allegations against forward Antony seriously, awaiting police investigation amid concerns for abuse survivors.

Manchester United is facing a challenging situation as they grapple with allegations of domestic abuse made against their forward, Antony Matheus dos Santos.

The 23-year-old Brazilian talent has been dropped from his national team after accusations of physical aggression towards his former girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin, since January of this year.

While Antony vehemently denies these claims, the club is taking the matter seriously as Greater Manchester Police (GMP) conducts its investigation.

In a statement, Manchester United expressed their concern for the potential impact these allegations and subsequent reporting may have on survivors of abuse.

Manchester United acknowledges the allegations made against Antony and notes that the Police are conducting enquiries,” the club wrote.

“Pending further information, the club will be making no further comments.

“As a club, we are taking this matter seriously, with consideration of the impact these allegations and subsequent reporting will have on survivors of abuse,” the statement concluded.

Antony, for his part, has vehemently denied the allegations made by his ex-girlfriend, Gabriela Cavallin.

Among the accusations are claims that Antony attacked her while she was pregnant, damaged her breast implant, cut her finger with a glass, and threatened to throw her out of a speeding car.

Despite the controversy surrounding him, Antony is set to continue playing for Manchester United as the club's statement did not mention any suspension.

The Professional Footballers' Association has reportedly been in contact with the club to discuss the situation, indicating the broader concerns within the football community about such allegations.

Back in June, Antony released a statement in which he asserted that he had been falsely accused of domestic violence by his former girlfriend. While acknowledging that his relationship with Cavallin was "tumultuous," he maintained that he "never committed any physical aggression."

This latest development places Manchester United in a familiar position, as they previously faced scrutiny over domestic violence allegations involving former player Mason Greenwood.

The club decided to part ways with Greenwood, who was suspended for 18 months after facing allegations of attempted rape and assault, despite all charges being dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in February. Greenwood has consistently denied the claims against him.

The allegations against Antony have reignited discussions about the responsibility of football clubs in addressing issues related to domestic abuse.

A group called "Female Fans Against Greenwood's Return," originally formed to oppose Greenwood's potential return to Manchester United, has responded to the accusations against Antony by calling for clubs to take more proactive measures to tackle this pervasive problem.

As the Greater Manchester Police investigation unfolds and the football world watches closely, Antony's future at Manchester United remains uncertain.
