The Blues are demanding an amount that United feel is too much for a player whose contract will expire soon.

Manchester United and Chelsea are set to meet this week to resolve the impasse around Mason Mount's transfer.

United are said to have submitted what is believed to be their final bid for the England international, and the Blues responded to the £55 million bid by demanding £58 million, with an additional £7 million in add-ons.

With Mount in his final year, United feel what Chelsea are asking for is too much, given that Chelsea themselves paid £50 million for Raheem Sterling last season.

When Sterling moved from Manchester City, there was only one year remaining on his contract.

One of the reasons Chelsea are not comfortable with selling Mount is because it would be selling one of their home-grown players, especially at a time when new manager Mauricio Pochettino wants to make his mark on the squad.

Chelsea have already allowed Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Mateo Kovacic to leave, with the Senegalese moving to Saudi Arabia. Kovacic decided to remain in the Premier League and signed for Manchester City.

Koulibaly signed for Al Hilal, and Mendy was signed by Al Ahli.

There are also reports that N'Golo Kante has agreed to join Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League and Ruben Loftus-Cheek will move to AC Milan. Tiemoue Bakayoko left the club as a free agent, and many are expected to depart as the club wants to clear out the squad.
