Manchester City’s Croatian midfielder Matteo Kovacic has been accused of failing to sever old ties and revelling in his former side Chelsea’s last-gasp draw against the Cityzens.

Kovacic appears to celebrate against Manchester City

Kovacic joined Manchester City this summer after spending four years at Chelsea, winning the UEFA Champions League, the Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup with the Blues.

The Croatian was forced to seek new pastures this summer after deciding he needed a new challenge and was snapped up by reigning Premier League champions Manchester City, but when the two sides met, it appeared that Kovacic still had a soft spot for Chelsea.

After Chelsea’s Cole Palmer scored a late penalty to level the tie against Manchester City, Kovacic appeared to celebrate the goal, much to the shock of fans online.

Kovacic celebration adds to Chelsea-Manchester City drama

A video emerged of Kovacic pumping his fist as Palmer’s penalty went past Ederson in goal for Manchester City, and fans have assumed that the midfielder was celebrating a point for his former side.

In a thrilling match that ended 4-4, Kovacic’s reaction was yet another interesting plot point of a complex and entertaining match that saw Palmer and Raheem Sterling also play against their former clubs.

Despite the draw, Manchester City remain top of the Premier League, with Chelsea remaining 10th on the table after 12 matches.
