Manchester City will reportedly break the transfer record to land Leipzig's defender Josko Gvardiol.

According to reports, Manchester City are expected to send Leipzig an offer for Josko Gvardiol, which would become the new record transfer fee for a defender.

As Pulse Sports reported earlier, Manchester City have reportedly reached an agreement on personal terms with Leipzig central defender Josko Gvardiol.

The 23-year-old defender has been a target for a number of clubs, and interest further spiked after his impressive Qatar 2022 outing for Croatia, helping them clinch bronze.

What happened

The European champions are keen on bolstering their defence, and have identified the Croatian as the prime candidate, and according to Foot Mercato, they are willing to splurge to get their man.

According to the report, the Cityzens are expected to send an offer of €120 million for the defender.

This fee, if Manchester City pay it, will make Gvardiol the most expensive centre-back of all time, overtaking the captain of City's cross-town rivals, Manchester United’s Harry Maguire.

The Premier League champions look to be shuffling the pack away from the treble-winning team. They have lost Ilkay Gundogan to Barcelona and have placed Joao Cancelo on the market. Kyle Walker is also on the wishlist of Bayern, while Aymeric Laporte is expected to leave this summer, an exit that opens up a defensive spot on the team for Gvardiol to assume.
