Ademola Lookman's proposed move to Inter has hit another stumbling block as the Nerazzurri have identified an alternative
Inter Milan’s pursuit of Ademola Lookman has hit a frustrating wall, forcing the Serie A giants to explore alternative options.
With Atalanta holding firm on their €50 million valuation, Inter have now reopened talks with Chelsea forward Christopher Nkunku as they scramble to avoid missing out on a new attacking addition.
Atalanta stand firm as Lookman’s San Siro dream stalls
Ademola Lookman wants the move, Inter are ready to sign him, but Atalanta refuse to budge. The Super Eagles star has been pushing hard behind the scenes to secure a transfer to San Siro, but his current club are standing their ground.
Inter’s latest offer of €45 million, bonuses included, was swiftly turned down, and La Dea remain clear that nothing less than €50 million will get the deal done.
Lookman has already agreed to personal terms with Inter, reportedly signing off on a €4.5 million-per-year contract, but unless Inter increase their bid, the move is stuck in limbo.
For the Nerazzurri, time is ticking and patience is running out. Despite the player's willingness to force a move and Atalanta’s quiet openness to a sale, the gap in valuation remains the main roadblock. As of now, the deal hangs in the balance.
Nkunku enters the frame as Inter eye Plan B
With Atalanta proving tough negotiators, Inter have turned their attention to Christopher Nkunku, the Chelsea forward who has endured a stop-start spell in England.
According to multiple Italian sources, the Nerazzurri directors have already reactivated contact with Nkunku’s camp. While he is viewed as a backup option to Lookman, the Frenchman’s €6.5 million salary presents a fresh challenge.
In comparison, Lookman’s lower wage demands make him a more budget-friendly fit. Still, with the Chelsea hierarchy also reportedly open to parting ways with Nkunku, Inter are exploring the deal carefully.
It is early stages, but if Lookman’s transfer drags on any longer, Nkunku may become more than just a Plan B.
