Lokomotiv Moscow's Glushenkov and Karpukas sidelined as Russia faces Kenya; Kaprin names strong squad for crucial World Cup prep.

Anticipation is running high as Kenya national football team Harambee Stars  gears up to face Russia in an international friendly match on October 16, 2023.

The showdown, scheduled to take place in Antalya, Turkey, is not only an exciting exhibition of international football but also a crucial part of Kenya's preparations for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

However, Russia's preparations have been slightly marred as Lokomotiv Moscow midfielders Maxim Glushenkov and Artyom Karpukas have been ruled out of the match.

Russia's national team doctor, Vladimir Khaitin, revealed in an interview with the Russia Football Union portal that Glushenkov will be absent from the squad due to muscle discomfort.

"Maxim Glushenkov arrived at the team location with muscle discomfort. After an additional examination, together with the medical staff of Lokomotiv, the coaching and medical staff of the national team, it was decided to release Maxim Glushenkov to the club’s location in order to fully recover and prevent the possibility of injury,” he said.

Meanwhile, Artyom Karpukas will not  be joining the Russian team due to medical reasons.

In agreement with FC Lokomotiv, the decision was made to exclude Karpukas from the current training camp. This double blow for Russia has led to some last-minute adjustments in their lineup as they prepare to take on Harambee Stars.

Nevertheless, Russia's national team head coach, Valery Kaprin, has named a formidable 29-man squad, determined to put up a strong performance against Kenya in this international friendly.

The game will unfold at the Titanic Mardan Stadium in Turkey, with kickoff set for 7 PM local time.
