Liverpool transfer news: Condition revealed for Reds to sign #62bn-valued defender
Liverpool are reportedly in the hunt for one more defensive signing before the September 1 deadline.
Despite their perfect record in the Premier League, Arne Slot’s men have conceded two goals in both gameweeks one and two, beating Bournemouth 4-2 and narrowly defeating 10-man Newcastle United 3-2.
While the Reds have faced issues at full-back, they also seem short at centre-back, with their main options being Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez.
Although Liverpool have signed Giovanni Leoni from Parma, the 18-year-old is expected to be gradually introduced, and Slot also has Rhys Williams and Calvin Ramsey as backups if needed.
With Gomez’s ongoing injury problems, Liverpool are essentially one injury away from a crisis if Van Dijk or Konate also go down.
Consequently, the defending Premier League champions are now taking measures to address this area of concern.
Liverpool in talks to sign FA Cup-winning defender
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Reds are negotiating a move for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi.
The transfer expert’s post on X, formerly Twitter, suggests that a £30m deal is being discussed between both clubs for the 25-year-old.
🚨 Understand Liverpool remain in active talks to sign Marc Guehi immediately.#LFC are ready to pay over £30m now to get the deal done… but it depends on Crystal Palace.

If Palace find replacement and let him go, Guehi already said yes to the Reds.

However, Romano also suggests that any possible transfer will depend on the Eagles getting a replacement first, which keeps the Reds waiting.
As a result, it remains to be seen if the Merseyside giants will wait on the London club or switch to other defensive targets.
What does Guehi add to Liverpool?
Guehi is a player with sufficient experience in the Premier League, having made 134 appearances in the English top flight since joining Crystal Palace in the 2021-22 season.
That top-flight experience should serve him well ahead of any potential transfer, especially considering Liverpool’s lack of defensive cover.
It also benefits that the centre-back has a recent history of winning with the Eagles, having captained Oliver Glasner’s team to the FA Cup at the end of the 2024-25 season before securing the Community Shield this month.
