After being sold in the summer, Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi had the last laugh over Everton as his Fulham side knocked the Toffees out of the EFL Cup on penalties

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi got one over his former club Everton as Fulham knocked The Toffees out of the EFL Cup quarterfinal on penalties.

Everton fought from a goal down to send the match into extra time, where Nigerian-eligible defender Tosin Adarabioyo scored the winning penalty to send Fulham into the EFL Cup semifinal.

Fulham took the lead through an own goal from Everton’s Michael Keane but were denied a win in normal time through Portuguese striker, Beto’s late equaliser for the home side.

How it happened

Everton veteran Keane was at fault for the openign goal, turning a cross from Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson into his own goal just four minutes from halftime.

With the game ebbing to a close, Everton grabbed a dramatic late equaliser through Portuguese striker Beto, who found space to power home a header in the 82nd minute.

Beto’s equaliser sent the match straight to penalties since the EFL Cup does not have allowances for extra time.

Bobby Decordova-Reid missed from the spot first for Fulham, but Amadou Onana failed to capitalise on the miss as he saw Bernd Leno deny him the chance to send Everton into the next round.

Onana was made to rue his miss when Senegalese midfielder Idrissa Gueye failed to find the target with his spot-kick for the Toffees.

Unlike Onana, Super Eagles-eligible Tosin Adarabioyo made no mistake from the spot, sending Fulham into the next round by converting his penalty in sudden death.
