Manchester United fans pile on Andre Onana after his blunder against Brighton Hove and Albion.

Manchester United fans have once again had cause to call for the exit of Andre Onana after the Cameroonian goalkeeper’s blunder led to a 3-1 defeat to Brighton

What happened

Manchester United's momentum from their thrilling FA Cup win over Arsenal and comeback victory against Southampton was abruptly halted by Brighton at Old Trafford.

The Seagulls struck a devastating blow within five minutes, courtesy of Yankuba Minteh's clinical finish, sending the home faithful into despair.

The Red Devils regained their composure and equalised in the 23rd minute through Bruno Fernandes' penalty. However, Kaoru Mitoma restored Brighton's lead on the hour mark, leaving Manchester United chasing the game.

A costly error from André Onana proved to be the turning point, as the 28-year-old goalkeeper's fumble presented George Rutter with a gilt-edged opportunity.

The 22-year-old Frenchman capitalised with aplomb, sealing a 3-1 victory for the visitors and compounding Manchester United's misery.

The reactions

Onana’s Manchester United career has been error-ridden. Following Bayindir’s heroic performance against Arsenal in the FA Cup, fans called for the backup to depose the Cameroonian.

The former Ajax man's performance against Brighton further embittered Red Devils fans, who, on social media, called for the CAF Goalkeeper of the Year to leave the club.

“Personally I don’t like goalkeepers who wants the spotlight. Just man the goal and keep it going,” one fan said. “He should be the first player to booted out of the club this transfer window,” another lamented.

“It’s high time he leaves oo biko,” a third added. But for one Aliyy Musa, the clearout should be wholesale and not single out Onana, “Not only Onana, about 11 more players should leave.”
