IFAB convened today at Wembley Stadium in London for their Annual Business Meeting (ABM), where they deliberated on proposed changes to the laws of the game.

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) have announced that referees' live communication of video assistant referee (VAR)-related decisions will be available to the public in stadiums and via various broadcasters.

IFAB( International Football Association Board) are the body that determines the laws of the game. They have announced that referee VAR-related communications would be subject to microphones accessible to fans in the stadium and those watching on TV.

VAR deliberations to be accessible

IFAB convened today at Wembley Stadium in London for their Annual Business Meeting (ABM), where they deliberated on proposed changes to the laws of the game. 

The meeting today was chaired by Mark Bullingham, the CEO of the FA. They deliberated on several matters and made new announcements pertaining to the Laws of the Game.

IFAB followed up on recommendations made by their Technical Advisory Panels and reached the following conclusions on VAR communications.

"It was agreed at the meeting that referees’ live communication of video assistant referee (VAR)‑related decisions to the public, both in the stadium and via broadcasters," per the IFAB website.

The development to be launched at the Club World Cup

IFAB also announced that this new development would be trialled for the next twelve months, starting from the Club World Cup that commences in February.

The competition would be hosted in Morocco, and it begins on February 1st and runs till the 11th day of the month.

It remains to be seen how the communication would work or be received, but attention would be paid to the competition in Morocco, and a successful trial in the competition would be crucial to its integration into regular leagues.
