Firat has confirmed that his technical team has already shortlisted a pool of players that will represent the country at the showpiece, with the possibility of them taking part in a friendly match in America.

Harambee Stars head coach Engin Firat has explained how his side will prepare for the upcoming African Nations Championships (CHAN) tournament which is to be held in East Africa this September.

The tournament is usually designated specifically for local-based players, with no foreign-based players allowed to participate in the tournament.

Speaking to Radio 47, Firat said that, he has given many local-based players opportunities to showcase their capabilities during his time in charge of the team, it has given him an idea and a list of potential players that will feature at the tournament.

“If you look at some of our rivals, like Ivory Coast, Gabon, Gambia, whatever...you will see that none of them have so many local players like us,” Firat said.

"We invited a lot of local players and gave them a chance, and this way, we have our list, so we are ready.”

Firat has revealed that he will plead with the federation to allow his assistant Ken Odhiambo to take a more hands-on role with the ‘B’ team, which will be 100 percent made up of local-based players.

In January, FKF president Nick Mwendwa revealed that there were plans to get the team to take part in a friendly match with Ecuador, something the Turkish coach has now confirmed.

“We are also trying to give the team a chance to go to America in June, so therefore, I also hope this will bring them together.

“I think with the players we gave a chance and also with the boys that are coming from the U18 and U20 sides, we should be able to have a solid team for the tournament.”
