Manchester City fans are in meltdown today after Pep Guardiola’s men were ruthlessly dismantled 2-0 by Manchester United at Old Trafford.
Goals from Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu secured a famous debut win for interim boss Michael Carrick, but the post-match reaction from City fans has been all about Guardiola's tactical naivety and a poor display.
Despite dominating nearly 70% of possession, City were carved open at will. Guardiola’s decision to field an ultra-aggressive high line without the injured duo Ruben Dias and Josko Gvardiol left the Citizens looking "easy to play through."
In fact, the scoreline could have been far more damaging if not for VAR, which intervened to rule out goals from Bruno Fernandes and Amad Diallo for offside, while Harry Maguire also rattled the woodwork early on.
The xG (Expected Goals) told a damning story of the hosts' clinical efficiency and City's toothless attack, with United racking up a dominant 2.03 xG compared to City’s meager 0.45.
This latest slip leaves City six points behind Arsenal, with the Gunners now having the golden opportunity to open a massive nine-point lead at the top if they defeat Nottingham Forest later today.
Social media was unforgiving, as fans suggested the legendary City manager has finally run out of ideas.

"Pep Guardiola is genuinely the most overrated manager in football history. His entire career has been carried by all-time great players, unlimited financial doping, referee briberies and sports-washing. This is not the GOAT manager."

"This Guardiola end of his career hatewatch has been amazing, no matter how much money this dude spends, his tactics are washed, and he is progressively losing his mind. Beautiful stuff."
@universesauce
