The Nigeria Super Eagles faced backlash from frustrated fans who are still disappointed with the team's performances.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are back on the cooking table of their fans’ discontent following the latest social media post from the team’s official account.

A promotional video for the “Let’s Do It Again” campaign posted on Wednesday has sparked a wave of criticism and frustration for the fans who are still angry and disappointed.

Super Eagles and WCQ: What happened

The road to the 2026 FIFA World Cup kicked off with Nigeria’s Super Eagles in action with the rest of the world.

Nigeria hosted Lesotho in the first of two matches before taking on Zimbabwe three days later in a keenly anticipated double-header.

However, both games ended in disappointment for Nigerians after their Eagles dropped four valuable points in both games.

The Eagles came from behind twice to salvage a share of the spoils after a 1-1 draw in the respective matches, with Semi Ajayi and Kelechi Iheanacho the heroes.

Nigerians react again

Following the draws, the Eagles have been on the receiving end of backlashes from their supporters, who watched their team deliver a lacklustre performance.

And just when the fans thought they had moved on, the Super Eagles account reminded them with a promotional post for AFCON 2023.

The post which was shared on X.com was meant to rally support and evoke the spirit of resilience ahead of the AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire as Nigeria goes in search of a fourth title.

Arise O’ Compatriots! Don’t stop believing, this dream and declaration shall be a reality," Super Eagles' message read. "We need you behind us! We can do it again!"

However, it backfired, with Nigerians interpreting it as tone-deaf in light of the team’s recent struggles and performances on the pitch.

The fans took to the comments to pour out their feelings and frustrations, with some interesting questions and calls for manager Jose Peseiro to be sacked.

Here are some of the reactions.
