The 2023 final of Nigeria's Federation Cup will see Bendel Insurance take on Enugu Rangers in what would be a historical fixture.

Bendel Insurance have overpowered Warri Wolves to cruise into the final of the Federation Cup, as well as continue their unbeaten streak in the 2023 Nigerian football season.

It becomes the first time the Benin club have entered the final of Nigeria's cup competition since they last did in 2006.

Bendel Insurance closer to ending 43-years wait

The three-time champions on Thursday, booked their place in their fifth-ever cup final by edging Nigeria second division side Warri Wolves 3-2 on penalties after a 0-0 scoreline.

The victory comes on the back of Insurance, knocking out ABS FC in the round of 64, Ahudiya in the round of 32, Heartland in the round of 16, and Sunshine Stars in the quarterfinals, and all by a goal margin.

Their last appearance in a final - in 2006 - saw them lose the Federation Cup to Dolphins after a penalty shootout.

However, the cup-starved Benin club would only hope they can get their hands on the title in 2023, 43 years after they last won it in 1980. Insurance also won the 1972 and 1978 competitions.

Bendel Insurance to renew rivalry with Rangers

Meanwhile, the other semifinal of the 2023 Federation Cup saw six-time champions Rangers defeat 1999 winners Plateau United at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode on Thursday.

Rangers had secured their place in the final as Godwin Obaje converted a 90th-minute penalty.

The meeting will see Rangers and Bendel Insurance clash in a cup final for the third-ever time after they both di in 1978 and 1981.
