Atlético Madrid manager Diego Simeone has explained why Ademola Lookman has immediately stood out, noting his unique quality, which makes him different from the other forwards already at the club.
The 28-year-old joined the club on the winter transfer window deadline day and has immediately settled into the side with five goal contributions already in four matches.
He shone on his debut, scoring and assisting in the Copa del Rey triumph over Real Betis, and showed the same level of production in the semi-final first-leg clash against Barcelona.
What Simeone said
Lookman’s excellent start to life as a Rojiblanco has attracted plaudits for both the player and the club's transfer decision. Simeone had also praised the Super Eagles' star, lauding his maturity and readiness.
In a recent presser, he highlighted the former La Dea star’s ability to dribble, a quality which makes him stand out in the squad. "He has different qualities compared to our other forwards," Simeone said.
“He's more of a specialist in one-on-ones than in combination play, even though he can do that as well, and he immediately made a very good impact on the team."
Meanwhile, former Watford captain Troy Deeney also endorsed Ademola Lookman's move to Atlético Madrid, stating that the Nigerian forward is perfectly suited to Diego Simeone's style.
