The Blues are in hot water are faced with a potential fine and points deduction as the Premier League opens an investigation into alleged financial rule breaches

Chelsea’s start to the 2023/24 Premier League season appears to have gone from bad to worse following reports that the club is under investigation by England’s FA for breaching its financial fair play rules.

Chelsea facing FA investigation

The Blues’ summer has already been rocked by the news that new signing Christopher Nkunku could miss up to four months of action before he has even gotten the chance to kick a ball in the Premier League, and it appears that things could get even worse.

The Blues are reportedly being investigated by the FA for breaching financial rules during the administration of former owner Roman Abrahamovic.

Chelsea are yet to be officially charged with any rule breaches while investigations continue, but they could face a potential fine or points deduction if they are found culpable by the investigations.

Chelsea already suffered UEFA a fine for financial breaches this season

The investigation into Chelsea comes after the club was reported to authorities by its new ownership after a takeover last season from Abrahamovic.

The Blues have already been punished by UEFA for breaching financial rules after they were found guilty of failing to submit complete financial details for dealings between 2012 and 2019 and were fined €10 million.

A potential point deduction could be devastating to Chelsea as they look to re-enter the top half of the table in the 2023/24 campaign after finishing 12th in the Premier League last season.
