The Tanzanian underdogs aim to overturn a 1-0 deficit against Al Ahly in Cairo in the return leg of the CAF Champions League quarterfinal clash.

Defending champions Al Ahly are set to host Simba SC in a pivotal CAF Champions League quarter-final second-leg clash at Cairo International Stadium this Friday evening.

The match, which promises to be a fierce battle under the lights, kicks off at 11pm East Africa Time.

Despite the Egyptian Red Devils holding a slender 1-0 lead from the first leg, the stage is set for what could be a historic night for the Tanzanian giants.

Simba, under the tutelage of Abdelhak Benchikha, displayed a commendable performance in Dar es Salaam but fell short, failing to capitalize on multiple occasions that saw them dominate the possession and push Al Ahly into defensive mode.

The missed opportunities have been a point of reflection for Benchikha, who lamented the squandered chances against such a formidable opponent.

“At this level of football, you must use your chances against a big club like Al Ahly, or else you suffer the consequences, which are usually bitter,” Benchikha remarked post-match.

However, the Simba camp remains undeterred and optimistic about overturning the deficit in Cairo. Benchikha’s rallying cry to his squad has been clear – the battle is far from over.

“We have not given up. We want to use the second leg away in Cairo. As much as it will be tough, we will have to push to the end,” he affirmed with a sense of determination that has characterized Simba’s journey in the tournament.

Al Ahly, while unbeaten in their last 17 CAF Champions League games, will be without key players Mohamed El Shenawy and Yassir Ibrahim, both sidelined due to injuries. This could offer Simba a glimmer of hope as they aim to exploit any potential weaknesses in the host’s lineup.

The stakes are high, with a semi-final berth against either TP Mazembe or Petro de Luanda awaiting the aggregate winners.

Simba’s quest for a monumental upset in Cairo is not just about progressing in the competition but also making a statement on African football’s grand stage.

As Friday night approaches, all eyes will be on the Cairo International Stadium. Will Simba SC orchestrate one of the most memorable comebacks in CAF Champions League history, or will Al Ahly continue their march towards an unprecedented 12th title? The scene is set for a night of high drama and footballing spectacle.
