Kenya's Michael Olunga is preparing for a significant match with Al Duhail against league leaders Al Sadd set for Friday night.

Harambee Stars and Al Duhail striker Michael Olunga has emphasized the critical nature of the upcoming Qatari Stars League match against Al Sadd, the current league leaders, set for Friday 5 April at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha.

The statement was made during the pre-match press conference yesterday at the club's press conference hall, as Al Duhail prepares to bounce back from a recent 2-0 defeat last Sunday.

"We know the importance of the match that awaits us versus Al Sadd, the leader of the league table and the team with the distinctive performance, but we will do our best on the field to achieve victory over them," said Olunga.

Al Duhail's recent form has been a concern, with only one win in their last five games.

Olunga pointed out several factors contributing to the team's performance downturn, including injuries that sidelined key players, lapses in concentration, and the intense competition within the league.

"There are a number of reasons that caused the team’s performance to decline...but we will try to regain our strength to achieve victory and appear in the required manner," Olunga added, acknowledging the challenges while remaining optimistic about the team's prospects.

The Kenyan striker is not just any player but a beacon of hope for Al Duhail, coming off a stellar performance with the Harambee Stars, where he emerged as the top scorer with five goals and played a pivotal role in winning the Four-Nations tournament in Malawi.

"I am here to help the team, and my decline in scoring is due to the tactical changes that need time to be adapted...But now we continue to work with all determination to regain our strength in the upcoming matches," he confidently stated, underlining his commitment to contributing to Al Duhail's success.

Currently, Al Duhail stands sixth in the league with 22 points from 18 matches, while their opponents, Al Sadd, lead the table with 43 points from the same number of matches.

Olunga's impressive tally of 12 goals in 15 appearances this season for the reigning champions demonstrates his crucial role in the team's quest to climb the league standings.
