Ladan Bosso's men lost their fist game at the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup, losing 2-0 to Brazil. The Flying Eagles finished third in the group to Italy and Brazil.

The Flying Eagles national side settled for a third place finish after losing their last group game to Brazil by 2-0 at the ongoing FIFA U20 World Cup.

The Nigerian U20 side finished Group D in a disappointing third place after Italy defeated the Dominican Republic 3-0 in the other group game.

Ladan Bosso’s men succumbed to the superior power of the Brazilian side despite dominating possession in most parts of the game.

Here are 3 mistakes made by the Nigerian coach in the loss to Brazil

1. Playing to win the game

The Flying Eagles came out smoking in the opening 15 minutes and showed they were not scared or pushovers.

Salim Fago hit the woodwork in what would have given Nigeria the advantage and the young side pushed forward for more.

However, the U20 side should have played a more relaxed game, sitting back and catching the young Samba Boys on a counter attack.

Nigeria only needed a draw to stay top of the table and beating Brazil at cost was not needed at this stage of the competition.

2. Not resting key players for the game

Defensive midfielder Daniel Daga was on a yellow card and risked missing the round of 16 clash as the team progressed.

Daga committed a foul outside the Nigerian 18-yard box in the first half and was careful no to get another booking.

The midfielder could not make the challenge in Brazil’s build-up to the second goal, Marquinhos was not challenged as he put the ball through the legs of the goalkeeper.

3. The defence is still a major concern

Starting from goalkeeper Chijoke Aniagboso who has not been too convincing since the start of the tournament, to the two-center halves Abel Ogwuche and Solomon Agbalaka.

The defenders had a decent game but were opened up by Brazil when they attacked through the middle. They literally had an easy passage to score the second following their lack of understanding.

Nigeria will likely face another tactical side in the round of 16 and coach Bosso should take not of his side’s weaknesses at the group stages.
