Williams rejects Barcelona and Bayern Munich
As Pulse Sports reported, Barcelona were dealt a major blow in their summer transfer plans, as key winger target Nico Williams signed a long-term contract extension with Athletic Club.
The 22-year-old had previously reached a verbal agreement with Barcelona and was set to be signed by the Blaugrana pending the triggering of his release clause. However, the Spain international made a U-turn, deciding to remain at his boyhood club.
Bayern Munich were also bidding for his signature and recently tabled an improved offer. However, he rejected them for Barcelona. Hence, his decision to remain at Athletic Club has come as a shock to both European giants.

What Hoeness said
The honorary Bayern Munich president said he had been in communication with Flick and revealed that the Barcelona coach was caught by surprise after news of Williams' signing a contract renewal hit the air.
“We were all surprised (that he extended his contract),” he said, per MD. “I had close contact with Hansi Flick, who is on vacation in Tegernsee, and they were also surprised because they practically had an agreement with him.
“I don’t understand what (Nico) wants, but in my opinion [Athletic Club] are just trying to get more money because next year he will cost more than 60 million euros.”
