What Barcelona president said
The Barcelona president was immediately questioned about Nico Williams and reports that Athletic Club officials had met with La Liga to express concerns about Barcelona's potential non-compliance with Financial Fair Play regulations regarding the player.
"Everyone does what they have to do, we do what Barca has to do when it comes to taking advantage of market opportunities, and obviously, we follow what our sporting director and our coach tell us.
)
"In this sense, I have nothing more to say, and as for Athletic, let them do what they must. I respect what they do, just as I hope they respect what we do.
"We comply with all the requirements that La Liga and the Financial Fair Play rules demand of us so that we can take advantage of market opportunities," Laporta said, as reported by Sportal.
Laporta offered a concise response regarding Nico Williams: "I won't talk about players, I'll talk about the market opportunities, which are several, and in this sense, we are there. We are ready.
)
"If a market opportunity involves paying a release clause, Barca is ready to take advantage of that opportunity and do what is appropriate. I don't want to talk about pursuits, difficulties arise, obstacles are put in our way, and we are learning to navigate obstacle courses."
Regarding Frenkie de Jong's new contract, Laporta stated: "His contract renewal is underway. Negotiations are at an advanced stage. We want Frenkie to stay for many years.
"He is a benchmark in the team, as Ronald Koeman says. I hope he continues with us. He wants that; I know he is very happy at Barca."
